Sumitomo Bakelite Europe NV specializes in the production of phenolic resins and polyester for all kinds of applications. Together with Vyncolit NV in Ghent and Sumitomo Bakelite Europe (Barcelona), S.L.U. in Barcelona, we are part of the global group SBHPP. Our parent company is located in Japan.
In 1966 Hooker Chemical nv was founded and in 1967 a site was started in Genk for the production of acid, phenolic resins and polyester.
In 1984 the name changed to Occidental Chemical nv and in 2000 it was taken over by Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. In 2004 the name finally changed to Sumitomo Bakelite Europe NV as we know it today.
The workforce in Genk consists of about 70 blue collar workers and about as many white collars. We are a SEVESO company and therefore place safety at the highest level.
